How to navigate an identity crisis

Tory Archbold

Have you thought about your next step?

Are you thinking about changing your business or transforming your life?

I have been where you are now. I went through my own identity crisis when I closed Torstar and was ready to begin Powerful Steps.

In this episode, I share with you my story of beginning my first business and launching world leading brands into Australia. I want to take you back to the beginning of where my courage and self belief came from.

I was always known as the girl in the little black dress that made things happen for others. I had 60 little black dresses in my cupboard!

After the success of this business, I felt I was ready to move on and create a brand that delivers a global impact that works towards empowering others. I opened up to thousands of readers and shared my own personal journey in Marie Claire magazine. I found the power in my story and I no longer cared what others thought.

I’m so thankful to pass on the process and exercise a Buddhist monk shared with me to learn to marinate in your problem for a set amount of time and then let it go. It could be 45 seconds, 45 minutes or 45 years. The choice is up to you. If you learn to forgive others, you will wake up every day with a happy heart.

I’m so excited to share with you the three things to prioritise if you’re going through a transformation. This list will help you clear out your old energy and set your intentions for the next phase of your life.

I leant into my intuition and my power to become the woman that I am today. I will always be grateful that I knew to trust my gut that the next powerful step was coming. I had the self belief and courage to pursue it, worked incredibly hard to build my brand, and now I am so happy to be able to empower and help women from all over the world.

Topics Discussed

[1:30]: I started my first business in my 20s ‘Torstar’ founded on my values of passion, integrity and delivery. If you’re passionate about what you do, you’re going to attract people on the same journey.

[2:58]: I ended up working with the world’s top performing brands, celebrities and influencers.

[3:50]: The number one retail brand in the world found me based on my values and we launched Zara in Australia with 22,000 people on the opening day and a million dollars in sales.

[5:10]: I was working behind the scenes and blending in my little black dress. I found it challenging when Zara wanted me to wear hot pink and stand out.

[6:04]: When my time was up with Torstar and I was ready to begin Powerful Steps, I had an identity crisis around who I am. How am I going to become a brand that delivers a global impact that will empower others?

[6:47]: My first powerful step was to connect with Marie Claire magazine. I shared my story and took ownership of who I was and what had happened to me.

[8:38]: I shared my story of being a single mum and growing a global business, winning full custody of my daughter, winning a restraining order, and self-representation. The power was to share the success and survival part of my story with Marie Claire’s readers.

[10:00]: I no longer cared what others thought and stepped outside of my comfort zone and into my power zone.

[10:42]: I have been where you are, broken through the barriers and took ownership of my story. I have translated this into the most powerful toolkit in Powerful Steps for other women who thought ‘what next?’.

[11:39]: I recommend this process taught to me by a buddhist monk: Learn to let things go and learn to forgive. Forgiveness gives you freedom in your heart. You wake up everyday with a happy heart and your happy heart becomes a magnet for miracles.

[12:03]: Try this exercise: shut your eyes, open your hands up and receive the good energy that is meant for you everyday. Sit down, cross your legs and learn to receive.

[13:02]: You can marinate in your problem for 45 seconds, 45 minutes or 45 years. I don’t have any more than 45 seconds to waste on any problem.

[14:28]: Learn from it, grow from it, release it and move on.

[15:05]: The time is now, do not wait. I learnt to trust my gut and I knew that the next powerful step was waiting.

[16:00]: If you’re looking to transform into the next version of yourself or one business to the next, make sure you do these three things:

[16:17]: #1 Create the space. Shift the energy that no longer serves you. I gave away my 60 little black dresses.

[16:52]: #2 I really looked at my tribe. I made a list of who are the ones that are there for me, lift me up, challenge me, and don’t judge me but call me on my shit. My list came down to 8 people (including family, friends and professionals).

[19:10]: #3 You have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and into your power zone. I stepped out of the little black dress and into the little pink dress and put myself forward as a brand.

[20:51]: I am just the conduit for transformation for others.
